Picking 'Worts'

Today, the local whortleberry is harder to find, due in the main to the increase in fern & bracken.

Some places have been ploughed and are now grass fields, or have been fenced off. But they can still be found during the months of July and August. The plant is a lover of poor acid soil and inaccessible places. Sheep are also very found of this delicacy.
The favourite places were Whortleberry can be found, are Porlock Hill, Horner, County Gate, North Hill and Dunkery Beacon.
